Glass sphere lens turning the view of a city upside down

Bio

Sharon Mason is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), a faculty associate in the UCA STEM Residential College, and a frequent collaborator with the Norbert O. Schedler Honors College. She specializes in contemporary epistemology, with a focus on the epistemic significance of perspective to knowledge. Her published work includes “Agent-Awareness in Reflective Knowledge” in Erkenntnis (2017) and “Climate Change Denial as Willful Hermeneutical Ignorance” in Social Epistemology (2020). Her main research explores perspective as an ontological metaphor that constructs ways of thinking about perspectives, as well as questions about how perspective relates to social location, especially at the intersection between feminist standpoint theory and contemporary social epistemology. Her regular courses include Theories of Knowledge, Modern Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, Symbolic Logic, and Philosophy for Living. She also works on philosophical pedagogy, including expanding the early modern canon (see the two-part series on the APA Blog – Part I: How to Teach About Race in Modern Philosophy, and Part II: Why Teach About Race in Modern Philosophy) and teaching philosophy as a way of life. A new article, “Philosophy for Living: Two Models of a PWOL Approach” (co-authored with Benjamin Rider) is forthcoming in American Association of Philosophy Teachers Studies in Pedagogy, vol. 6.
